9. Present and future of the photodynamic therapy in cervical cancer treatment
نویسندگان
چکیده
Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) is considered a highly effective method to diagnose and treat a wide variety of premalignant and malignant processes characterized by the selective elimination of cancerous cells. PDT is based in the capability of some neoplastic cells to specifically accumulate a photosensitizer (Ps), which is photoactivated with local illumination of a specific wavelength. The Ps reacts direct and indirectly with the molecular oxygen present in cancerous cells by the generation of reactive oxygen species that are cytotoxic. In this review it will be briefly described the natural history of cervical cancer (CC) and its immediate precursor Cervical Intraepithelial Neoplasia (CIN), an analysis of the spontaneous regression of CINs and the management and treatment of CC. In the other hand it is also described the photochemistry and photobiology of the PDT, a review of PDT results on cervical carcinoma and premalignant lesions in others countries and a brief description of in vitro and pre-clinical studies in the treatment of cervical cancer that we realized, and the places where it is applied the PDT in Mexico. Finally it is presented an analysis of the perspectives of the CC treatment with PDT. Correspondence/Reprint request: Dr. Eva Ramón-Gallegos, Lab. de Citopatología Ambiental. Depto. de Morfología. Role of Photodynamic Therapy in the Treatment of Oral Cancer: A Review
Oral cancer is a major public health problem worldwide and is among the ten most common cancers. Despite the advances in research and treatment, oral cancer is still one of the major challenges in medical science. Common treatments for this cancer include surgery, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy, as well as adjuvant photodynamic therapy (PDT). The aim of this study was to evaluate oral cancer an...
متن کاملبررسی بیان ژن کاسپاز 9 و القای آپوپتوز پس از فوتودینامیک تراپی با روی فتالوسیانین در ردهی سلولیSW872 سرطان پوست
Background and Objective: The treatment of cancer comes as a great challenge worldwide. Thus the development of effective therapies with minimal side effects is important. Photodynamic therapy is a non-invasive and new therapeutic approach for the treatment of cancer. Therefore, in this study, we evaluated the photodynamic effects of a light-sensitive compound, Zinc-phthalocyanine (ZnPc), on ce...
متن کاملNanotechnology; its significance in cancer and photodynamic therapy
In the last decade, developments in nanotechnology have provided a new field in medicine called “Nanomedicine”. Nanomedicine has provided new tools for photodynamic therapy. Quantum dots (QDs) are approximately spherical nanoparticles that have attracted broad attention and have been used in nanomedicine applications. QDs have high molar extinction coefficients and photoluminescence quantum yie...
متن کاملمقایسه اثر دو منبع نور لیزری متفاوت بر بازده درمان فتودینامیکی سرطان پستان در شرایط برون تنی
Background and Objective: Photodynamic therapy is a new therapeutic modality for the treatment of cancer. Photodynamic therapy uses an inactive drug and a light source to activate the drug to produce reactive oxygen species that destroy the cancer cells. In the present study, the effect of two different laser light sources on the efficiency of photodynamic therapy was evaluated using a breast c...
متن کاملPnm-7: Sexual Function in Women with Cervical Cancer and A History of Pelvic Radiation Therapy
Background Cervical cancer is the second most common cancer in women and is regarded as one of the leading causes of cancer death in developing countries. In cervical cancer patients, both surgery and radiation therapy may bring about sexual dysfunction. Therefore, this study aimed to survey sexual dysfunction in women with cervical cancer and a history study of pelvic radiation therapy in Ghae...
متن کاملGold nanoparticles as cancer theranostic agents
The application of nanotechnology in medicine involves using nanomaterials to develop novel therapeutic and diagnostic modalities. Given the unique physiochemical and optical properties of gold nanoparticle (GNP) such as good biocompatibility, nontoxic nature, surface properties and comparative stability, it has been widely studied in medicine, especially as a cancer theranostic agent. Th...
